Wine Director & Owner of A16
Shelley Lindgren is the wine director and owner of San Francisco’s Italian restaurant A16, now celebrating 21 years in business. She has received the James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine Program (2015) and the 2023 Slow Wine Fair Award for Best Selection of Good, Clean, and Fair Italian Wines. In recognition of her work with lesser-known Italian grape varieties, she was knighted by the Italian government, receiving the prestigious "Cavaliere dell’Ordine Della Stella Italia" (Dott.ssa).
Shelley's third book, Italian Wine: The History, Regions, and Grapes of an Iconic Wine Country, is a finalist for the 2024 IACP Awards. Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Food & Wine, Punch, San Francisco Chronicle, and many other publications.
In 2020, Shelley co-founded Tansy Wines with Kitty Oestlien. The winery focuses on Italian varietals from Northern California, as well as Pinot Noir and an upcoming Cabernet Sauvignon, all made from organically farmed, single-vineyard grapes.
Shelley has served on the boards of La Cocina, the Guild of Sommeliers, Golden Gate Restaurant Association and Slide Ranch, and is a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier.
